1890 Bird's Eye View

Map of Lunenburg - Bird's Eye View - 1890

This pictorial view of the Town was drawn by Bollinger of Halifax and published by D.D. Currie of Moncton, N,B. It shows in considerable detail how the Town had developed by 1890, Many older houses had been renovated and added to with stylish dormers and towers and many new houses had been built in the eclectic, late Victorian style typical to Lunenburg, with projecting dormers, bold frontispieces, and ornate, bracketed trim around windows and doors. The expansion of the Town beyond its original boundaries was by now firmly under way and the New Town and the eastern edges of the Old Town were quite well developed.

Mills at the back of the Old Town and on the edge of the New Town provided building materials for the expansion and the Town took on a quite different face to that which it had had early in the 19th century.
